Sunset Snapper Charters in Marathon, FL

Ready for some killer evening fishing in the Florida Keys? Our 4-hour sunset charters out of Marathon are the perfect way to cap off your day. We'll hit the water around 7:30 PM, just as the light's getting good and the fish are getting hungry. Whether you're a seasoned angler or just looking to wet a line, our experienced captain knows all the sweet spots for hooking into some quality snapper and redfish.

What's the Deal?

Picture this: You're cruising out of Marathon as the sun starts to dip, the water's calm, and there's a nice breeze. We've got all the gear you need, so no worries about bringing your own stuff. Our captain's been fishing these waters for years, so he knows exactly where to find the bite. We'll hit a mix of spots - maybe some inshore mangroves, maybe a little offshore action, depending on what's biting. And the best part? You get to fish as the sky turns all kinds of crazy colors. It's pretty sweet, I gotta say.

How We Roll on the Water

Alright, so here's the lowdown on how we fish. We'll probably start off working some mangrove shorelines or nearshore reefs, using light tackle and live bait. It's all about finesse - you want to get that bait right up close to structure where the snappers are hiding out. As it gets darker, we might switch things up and drift some deeper spots, maybe even break out the chum to really get things going. The captain will show you the ropes if you're new to this, but even if you're an old pro, he's always got some local tricks up his sleeve.

Species You'll Want to Hook

Grey Snapper (Mangrove Snapper): These guys are the bread and butter of Florida Keys fishing. They're crafty little devils, usually hanging around mangroves and reefs. Grey snappers might not be the biggest fish in the sea, but they're fun to catch and taste amazing. They tend to get more active as the sun goes down, which is perfect for our evening trips. Expect to catch a bunch in the 1-3 pound range, with some bigger ones mixed in if we're lucky.

Cubera Snapper: Now we're talking about some serious fish. Cuberas are like the bruisers of the snapper family. They're not as common as their smaller cousins, but when you hook into one, you'll know it. These bad boys can grow over 100 pounds, though most we see are in the 20-40 pound range. They love structure and deep water, so we might hit some offshore spots if conditions are right. Landing a big cubera is definitely something to brag about.

Redfish: These copper-colored beauties are a favorite for a lot of anglers. They're strong fighters and can be found in the shallows and around oyster bars. The cool thing about redfish is you can often sight-fish for them, which adds a whole new level of excitement. They average around 5-10 pounds, but we occasionally hook into some real bulls over 20 pounds. Redfish are most active in the early evening, making them perfect targets for our sunset charters.

Why Folks Keep Coming Back

Look, I've been running these charters for years, and there's something special about fishing as the day winds down. The water gets calm, the temperature cools off, and the fish start biting. It's a totally different vibe from daytime fishing. Plus, you can't beat the views - watching the sun set over the Keys while you're reeling in dinner? That's hard to top. And let's be real, there's nothing like the feeling when that rod bends and you know you've got a good one on the line. Whether you're looking to fill the cooler or just enjoy some time on the water, these evening trips deliver.

Time to Lock In Your Trip

So there you have it - 4 hours of prime-time fishing in one of the best spots in Florida. We've got the knowledge, we've got the gear, and we've got the fish. All you need to do is show up ready for some action. Remember, we're only running these sunset trips in July and August, so don't wait too long to book. Spots fill up fast, especially on weekends. Give us a call or hit that "Book Now" button, and let's get you out on the water for some of the best fishing Marathon has to offer. Trust me, once you experience a Florida Keys sunset from the deck of a boat, with a bent rod in your hands, you'll be hooked for life.

Cubera Snapper

Cubera snappers are the bruisers of the snapper family, often topping 40 pounds with some monsters pushing 100. You'll find them lurking around deep reefs and wrecks, usually 60-150 feet down. These guys are most active May through August during spawning season. Anglers prize cuberas for their powerful fights and tasty fillets, though be careful – big ones can carry ciguatera. To target them, drop large live baits like blue runners or goggle-eyes near structure. Use heavy tackle – cuberas will dive for cover the second they're hooked. Here's a local trick: when you feel that first bump, don't set the hook right away. Let them run with it for a few seconds so they really inhale the bait. Then hang on tight, 'cause it's gonna be a battle bringing one of these brutes to the boat.

Grey Snapper

Grey snappers, also called mangroves, are a staple catch in the Keys. These wily fish usually run 1-3 pounds inshore, but can get up to 20 pounds offshore. Look for them around mangrove shorelines, bridges, and reefs in 10-100 feet of water. They're here year-round but really fire up in summer, especially around the full moon. Greys are fun to catch on light tackle and make excellent eating. To land one, try a live shrimp or small baitfish on a light fluorocarbon leader. These guys are smart, so keep your presentation natural. A local tip: chum heavily to get them fired up, then float your bait back in the slick. Once they start biting, the action can be non-stop. Just watch out for their sharp teeth when you're unhooking them.

Grey Snapper

Redfish

Redfish are a favorite target in the Keys, known for their coppery color and distinctive black tail spot. You'll find them in shallow waters, often just 1-4 feet deep, around oyster beds, seagrass, and mangroves. These fish typically run 20-30 inches, but can get much bigger offshore. Fall and winter are prime seasons when they school up in the backcountry. Anglers love 'em for their strong fights and excellent table fare. To hook one, try working a topwater lure or jig slowly across the flats at dawn or dusk. Listen for that telltale "pop" as they attack bait on the surface – that's your cue to cast. If you see their backs breaking the water (we call that "tailing"), you've hit the jackpot. Just remember to approach quietly or you'll spook the whole school.
